So, Canyon Rocks was awesome. I ended up getting to do some pretty neat stuff and very much enjoyed the day.
When I arrived I had the pleasure of meeting Alison Owen and the amazing film crew I was going to be working with. She gave me some details about what we were filming, and I was so excited. I was blessed to be a part of a short video detailing the amazing Little River Canyon Center, it's location in Fort Payne, AL, and the amenities it offers. The Little River Canyon Center is pretty awesome. It's the National Park Service headquarters for Little River Canyon, a beautiful sight to see. If you're ever in Fort Payne, you should totally check it out. Here are some pictures of filming.
The concert was amazing. The line up was incredible. I got to meet some new bands and listen to their music which was great. Canyonland Band was amazing, and then Payton Sells played with them and sang some songs including "Me and Bobby McGee," which made me sing along because y'all know Janis is my fave. Then Hunter Callahan performed and blew everyone away. Erin Kirby performed next. I had only ever seen her on Instagram and knew of her, but I was excited to get to finally meet her in person and see her perform live. Then American Hope rocked the house as always and it was great to see them perform an electric set because I've only ever heard them play acoustic versions of their songs live. Then Mama Jan Smith played with Peter Vogl and Heidi Higgins. My favorite part of their set was when they played "I Stand Amazed." They played it so so beautifully and I love that song.
After the show, I got to interview a few of the musicians who played and I absolutely loved getting to hear the perspective of the artists who performed. We talked about advice for singer/songwriters, what they have been working on, and what they thought of the concert. Here's a selfie Mama Jan took before the interviews.
The next day, we explored Fort Payne a bit. We found a nice church to visit, Second Baptist of Fort Payne, which would be a good candidate to visit if you're ever in the area. We took some pics in the square just for fun at this really cute coffee shop called The Spot. It was so much fun. They have a lovely sign with an arrow pointing down to the street. I went and stood under it for a picture and someone driving by yelled "Great shot!" I thought that was both very nice and very fun. There was an awesome Pete the Cat cut out, so obviously, I had to get a picture with it. Here are some pictures of the excitement.
It was an amazing trip, and I absolutely loved every second of it. Next weekend I'll be in Blairsville, GA for the FOCUS Festival. I played FOCUS last year and it was a blast. I can't wait to go back. If you're in the area, you should totally come! I'll be singing some hymns and some originals, and it will be fun. Hope to see you there!
Here are some more pictures of hanging out at Canyon Rocks just because.
